If you like to entertain, your guests will inevitably end up making their way into your powder bathroom, which just happens to be one of the best places to surprise them with something eye catching and memorable! Think of your powder room as the “jewel box” of your home – a place your guests can enter and be in awe of what’s inside.
We want to suggest three simple ways to achieve this “jewel box” effect for your powder bathroom.
1.) Wallpaper: When it comes to wallpaper, do not be afraid to go outside of your comfort zone. This small space can handle a lot of pattern, texture, or color without being overpowering. For pattern, try a geometric wallpaper with a hint of sheen. When the light hits the paper, that sheen will be subtle but noticeable, and will make the space shine! If something with texture is more your style, go for a neutral or bold colored grasscloth. Grasscloth is no longer a Brady Bunch staple. In fact, grasscloth has come back in a beautiful way and can make an amazing statement in any room.
2.) Mirrors: Mirrors are a necessity in any bathroom, so why not make them the focal point of the room? Gone are the days where you just glue a boring ‘ole frameless mirror onto the wall! Make that mirror count!!! It is, however, vital that you are conscious of scale in selecting a bathroom mirror. Many powder bathrooms have pedestal sinks, so be sure to select a mirror that stays within the width of the sink. To make the mirror a true statement, add height above the sink and choose a mirror with an interesting shape or frame. If you have a more neutral wallpaper, you may even want to add a contrasting pop of color with the frame of the mirror.
3.) Vanities: Give your vanity the attention it deserves and make it unique. Stray away from the typical pedestal sink and, if space is not a concern, use an antique furniture piece for your vanity. An old hutch or chest that you don’t know what to do with could make an extremely interesting bathroom vanity. Furthermore, the storage such a piece provides is a great way to hide toiletries and clean hand towels. If you already have a vanity you love but want to give it new life, try statement hardware. Acrylic or gold hardware is unique and provides an extra punch to the piece.
People all too often underestimate the power of a powder room. It is likely one of the most frequented rooms in your house, so don’t forget to give it the attention it deserves by creating a “wow” factor!
