CHD Interiors, originally known as Custom Home Decorating, began as a mother/son partnership in 1978 in a small retail space in Surfside Beach, SC. The design duo, Lance and Pollye Griffith, began with Pollye as lead seamstress and designer while Lance created a design clientele base and marketed their all-encompassing interior design service. CHD grew from two employees to thirty over the last 42 years, creating an additional CHD location in Mt. Pleasant to supplement the “mother store” in Murrells Inlet.
CHD was founded on its unique ability to provide full design services to include space planning, paint selection, customized furniture, wall and floor coverings, lighting, a wide variety of accessories, and a one-of-a-kind antique component to any design project. CHD is known for its genuine interest in its client base and is fortunate to get to know many of its client’s families and even get to work with several different generations of them.
In 2001, Patty, Lance’s wife, came into the business as Pollye retired. Her interest and passion for antiques led them to travel to Europe to seek antiques to give an additional design element to the “Low Country Chic” design style that CHD has mastered over time. Both of Lance’s daughters have since joined the business so that 3 generations of Griffiths are now part of the CHD design implementation. There are currently six designers on board and a support staff of 24 team members.
CHD Interiors thrives on its ability to provide a whimsical, singular design aspect that sets its projects apart from the ordinary. Owner and Lead Designer, Lance Griffith, explains it this way: “We are in the business of creating a home that reflects the genuine personality and lifestyle of our clients, whatever that might be. We go at great lengths to serve our clients with a unique and professional design service from start to finish.”
