PAWLEYS ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA

In this third installment of our “The Design is in the Details” series, we take you through a home on Pawleys Island, South Carolina. This home will wow you from the moment you enter until the moment you exit with its unique patterns and fabrics draping the house to create a vibrant and intriguing story every step of the way.

This beautiful antique English secretary was hand-picked by our CHD team for the client’s new den. A custom-designed chair with vibrant fabric and a white finish in a Chinese Chippendale style is the perfect way to combine antique and modern touches for a transitional style.

The kitchen was designed with a beautiful finish on cabinets that carry to the ceiling with crown molding wrapped around the top. The custom barstools mirror the cabinet finish, and the fabric on the seats and back adds a pop of red. The island overhangs on two sides to comfortably accommodate seating, and the island’s post lends a furniture feel to the space.

Adjacent to the kitchen, the initially small den absorbed a screened-in porch during reconstruction for a more spacious area. This client loves color, as is seen in the custom built-ins flanking the fireplace and the matching mantel. Can lights, pendants, and library lights in the built-ins are all on dimmers to control the mood of the space.

We chose the sofa to be a neutral color to allow signature fabrics to shine, such as the drapery panels and the backs of recliners.

Do you like the pattern? We do! These chairs have a two-part fabric application: floral on the inside of the chair and a coordinating graphic print on the outsides. The drapery panels were completed in a solid color to allow the chairs and wallpaper to shine.

With its pop of blue, this solo accent chair can be the star of the room!

The wallpaper sets the tone for this classic sitting room. The strong colors in the wallpaper and the chairs near the window are the center of attention, and the other furnishings are supporting players.

The use of aqua on the inside of the drapery panels and buttons, the seats of the barrel back chairs, and the accent pillows is a unifying thread in the room.

A custom butler’s pantry adjacent to the kitchen and den showcases glass doors designed by CHD and fabricated using our local resources in Charleston. A pop of red grasscloth on the inside of the cabinets is an interesting surprise.

This raspberry beauty is a custom set of drapery panels with jute ball fringe designed specifically for this home.

We maximized seating within this large open floor plan with an oversized coffee table to center the room. The layered rugs add texture and style to the design, and the calming coastal palette is ideal for a comfortable and intimate gathering place. The Crypton Performance swivel chairs and modern white sofas allow for easy viewing of the waterfront scenery.

A modernized fireplace adds a crisp, updated look to this Lowcountry home.

A unique statement piece will get a conversation started in any sitting room.

This upgraded kitchen blends a bold color to highlight the center island complimented by the soft, coastal whites of the cabinets and backsplash. Cabinets and drawers are finished with a sleek bronze hardware, and custom counter stools are covered with performance fabric. Statement pendant lights over the island add interest and dimension.

The custom dining area is designed to pull the coastal feel throughout the home with the deep ocean blue tabletop, seafoam pigmented white seating, and a uniquely designed light fixture.

Adding patterns and bold colors to this wet bar brings excitement into a smaller space.

The hanging chandelier amid this elegantly designed staircase illuminates the center of the home with style and grace.

The client wanted a customizable family room layout as a subtle passthrough from the foyer to the kitchen.

We gave the living room a modern look using eclectic-style guest chairs with strap detailing. The two low-back chairs were handpicked with designer fabrics to add pattern to the neutral seating arrangements.

A custom made ottoman with luxury fabrics, leather cording, and a custom-sized area rug pull the room together. The rug is 100% jute with mitered edge tape border layered under a hand-selected champagne cowhide to add texture.

Hanging behind the low-back guest chairs is the client’s oversized statement artwork and the two chests near the window add symmetry.

Adjacent to the kitchen is a breakfast nook that adds a rustic twist to the area. Antler sconces, a chandelier, and customizable art give it a minimalistic appeal.
