The CHD design team undertook the exciting project of helping this client move from a classic historic downtown residence to a stunning, contemporary penthouse apartment that boasts captivating views of Charleston’s cityscape. Our scope of work included furnishing every nook and cranny of the penthouse, from the luxurious main suite and inviting guest room to the refined gentleman’s den, two guest baths, the stylish living room, a functional office, and a welcoming foyer.

We curated art from globally renowned artists for our client’s home. With work displayed in three museums worldwide, Jill Hooper had her portraiture featured in the main suite. Louise Fenne, an artist from Denmark who studied in France and Italy, provided a stunning portrait for the living room. Charles Weed, an artist residing in Denmark who once taught at the Florence Academy of Fine Art, contributed a captivating landscape piece for the foyer. We also commissioned local artist Julie Messerschmidt for some beautiful still-life pieces in the living room and kitchen. We connected them with two talented ceramic artists based in Spain. Their exquisite, handcrafted pottery pieces now grace the living room, foyer, kitchen, and office, having been specially shipped to us from overseas.

The arch windows in the living room and main suite introduce a sense of elegance, timelessness, and unique character to the space. They can enhance the visual appeal of a room by providing a soft, graceful curve that adds a touch of sophistication and complements both traditional and contemporary design styles.

The design team enjoyed infusing historic charm into this contemporary architectural setting. The creative muse stemmed from the picturesque views of downtown Charleston from the apartment, where the team incorporated the hues of the iconic copper rooftops, the verdant outdoor foliage, and the tranquil blue ocean waters to craft a refined color scheme.
