Transforming rooms is obviously something the CHD design team loves to do, and with each transformation, new challenges arise. In this space, the living room was underutilized, and the owner had certain parameters we had to work within to give them the room of their dreams.

This client loves traditional design and wanted her family’s antique pieces to have a place in the room while still imparting a more modern updated feel. The room was recently painted, so we incorporated the wall color that the owners love into our design and added the “sparkle” they requested with accessories and detail pieces.

First, we swapped an antique piece that was too large for this room with a smaller piece from another room. We mixed modern style upholstery with traditional upholstery for an eclectic mix. The funky solid green velvet chair with metal legs is mixed with a herringbone print pair of skirted chairs to achieve a modern take on traditional. Lovely!

Next, add the sparkle. We added touches of gold in the window treatment hardware, flush mount chandelier, mirror, lamp, and end table accents for a little bit of glam. The room gains depth from the rich deep colors in the rug and the window treatments along with the artwork. These elements together create a richness of color without being overpowering.

Although we didn’t eliminate the amount of seating, the room still looks larger due to the scale of the furniture choices. The artwork hung high also gives the illusion of a larger space. This rarely used space has been transformed into a stunning sitting area this family will enjoy for years to come.
